Adding a grab bar to your shower or tub is an easy way to make it safer for everyone in your household. If you're ready to install a bathroom grab bar, read through these instructions from Liberty Hardware Mfg. Corp., then purchase your grab bar and get started!

A step-by-step guide to grab bar installation

Tools required:

  • 3/8-inch power drill
  • 7/64-inch drill bit (to drill pilot holes for installation of wood screws into wood wall studs)
  • 1/4-inch carbide tip drill bit (if drilling through ceramic tile)
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver
  • Safety glasses

Before installation:

1. Determine where you want to install your grab bar, then remove the grab bar and all parts from the package. For safety, your grab bar should be mounted into the wood studs in your wall. As an added point of reference, read these instructions on locating wall studs.

2. Hold the grab bar against the wall in the desired position and make sure it is level. Review the recommended placement for grab and assist bars.

3. Without removing the grab bar, take a pencil and mark the centers of the mounting hole positions on each end.

Installing your grab bar into wood studs

1. Put on safety glasses and use the 3/8-inch power drill and the and 7/64-inch drill bit to drill holes into the wall and wood studs at each pencil mark.

2. Apply a bead of silicone sealant made for wet applications to the back of the mounting flanges on each side of the grab bar, then place the grab bar on the wall, aligning the mounting holes with the holes in the wall.

3. Insert the provided wood screws into one end of the grab bar and screw into the wall. Note: HAND TIGHTEN ONLY.

4. Repeat the third step for the other end of the grab bar.

5. Tighten all mounting screws with a screwdriver.
